Clare’s passion for Boconnoc, its history, the natural environment and local community is evident in the part she has played in making Boconnoc what it is today. As the estate moves into the future, she and the team are reviewing their current practices, focusing on treading more lightly on the planet, exploring opportunities for nature recovery and nature-friendly farming, and using organic and regenerative principles.
Her career in hospitality and work in end-of-life care has helped her understand the importance of how we make others feel, how we connect to each other and the natural environment. She sees Boconnoc as a place of restoration and renewal. In her spare time Clare enjoys walking, swimming and time with her family, exploring in their camper van.
Elizabeth and her late husband, Anthony, embarked on the ambitious 12-year renovation of Boconnoc House in 2002, supported by their daughters, Clare and Sarah. One December evening Anthony stopped the car at the top of the drive and shone the lights on the dilapidated Boconnoc House, “One day we will have electricity in the house”. To this day she is still delighted each time the lights come on. Elizabeth always says this is a house that says, “If you take care of me, I’ll take care of you.”
Elizabeth now supports Clare and her husband Phil to run the estate. Sarah runs her own interior designer business and has managed the interior design projects of Boconnoc House, the Stewardry, and the three other holiday properties. Elizabeth is passionate about trees and gardens and has a love of the estate’s history.
