SUMMARY:Boconnoc Music Award Concert
DESCRIPTION:Each year a talented group of musicians are chosen from hundreds of students as the winners of the Boconnoc Music Award. The award was established by the late Anthony Fortescue and his wife Elizabeth Fortescue\, owners of Boconnoc in 2012. The prize constitutes a week’s residency on the estate\, providing a valuable opportunity for the musicians to work intensively on repertoire and technique in a private and unique environment. \nThe winners this year are The Astral Quartet. A multi-national London based saxophone quartet studying at the Royal College of Music. Formed in 2020\, the ensemble is passionate about performing classical\, jazz\, and contemporary music\, from Bach to Piazzolla\, while also commissioning young\, upcoming composers. The group consists of second-year undergraduates studying with Professor Kyle Horch and receives guidance and masterclasses from world-renowned educators\, including Sarah Burnett and Simon Channing. The Astral Quartet recently won first prize in the Royal College of Music Woodwind Chamber Competition (2022) and has performed at St James’s Piccadilly\, the Chelsea Theatre and the Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall. \nThis is the first time the group has performed outside London. \nThe members are Leopoldo Mugnai\, Oliver Lee\, Annabella Chenevix Trench and Ethan Townsend. \n \nPablo Ortiz de Urbina a Spanish conductor who was presented with the Boconnoc Music Award by the Royal College of Music in 2013 when he was part of the Cataleya Quintet said; “There is nothing more exciting than being given an opportunity to be inspired by music and to do so in a peaceful environment. An opportunity like the Boconnoc Award is so valuable to our professional careers and reminds us why we love music so much.”\n\nTickets are £25 (+£2.54 Eventbrite booking fee) \nArrival is at 6pm where you will be welcomed with a complimentary arrival drink and warm open fires. Canapés will be served in the candlelit drawing room before moving into the Garden Room for the special 7:30pm performance from the Royal College of Music. SUMMARY:Miracle Theatre's King Lear
DESCRIPTION:Miracle Theatre return to Boconnoc once again for an outdoor theatre experience in our picturesque Dorothy Garden.  \nThis summer\, Cornwall’s Miracle Theatre presents Shakespeare’s most elemental and passionate play.   \nKing Lear is an exquisitely dark tale about a family squabble that grows out of all proportion\, blowing up into a storm of deadly force. This fresh and fast-paced adaptation of Shakespeare’s text – pared down to its bare essentials – tells a shocking\, yet tender\, story of ageing and madness\, fuelled by ambition and fired by betrayal. Shakespeare loved to weave theatrical magic out of tragedy in a way that is never far from farce\, making King Lear ripe for Miracle’s unique treatment \nWhat audiences have said about previous Shakespeare adaptations by Miracle \n“A triumph of artistry over logic\, so inspired and hugely enjoyable” The Tempest\n“Better than Stratford in June” Romeo & Juliet \nPerformances of King Lear will be running for two nights Tuesday 26th July and Wednesday 27th of July at 7:30pm. \nBOOK TICKETS \nAdditional info:   \nCome prepared! Don’t forget to bring seats\, blankets\, picnic and all you need for an evening of open air theatre.

SUMMARY:Explore the sounds of Boconnoc at Night
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guided walk at dusk to discover the nocturnal residents on the estate including varieties of bats\, owls and beautiful moths. Boconnoc comes alive at night\, with owls silently drifting through the night sky. We hope to hear tawny owls and possibly barn owls as we walk round and we will see and listen for some of the bats coming out from the woods and buildings to feed using a bat detector. \nThe walk will be guided by ecologist Robbie Phillips and begin after a BBQ in the Stable yard with a glass of wine or soft drink around the fire pit. As well as his bat detector Robbie will also set up a moth trap (harmless to moths) which we will look at when we finish the walk\, giving everyone the chance to see some of the beautiful moth species rarely seen. In the UK there are over 2500 moths species. \nTickets are £26 per person. \nBOOK TICKETS

SUMMARY:A Nest of Gentle Makers
DESCRIPTION:A Nest of Gentle Makers was started in 2018 by Dr Charlotte Jenner with the aim of creating restorative retreats in beautiful settings. \n“We run retreats in a variety of locations ranging from rustic woodland to the majesty of Boconnoc House. But at our core is a desire to give our attendees the space and time that they need to nurture their creativity. \nWe are so excited to have the opportunity to bring A Nest of Gentle Makers once again to Boconnoc House. This beautiful country house estate is the perfect place to relax in comfort whilst feeding your creativity. There will be creative workshops\, walks\, yoga\, maybe some swimming and plenty of time to connect and chat. They will be intimate retreats of 8-11 guests. Each retreat is a half week (3 nights) and we will have different guest teachers for the two retreats so it would be completely possible (and rather wonderful) to join us for the whole week (6 nights).” \nRetreat One: Monday 24th-Thursday 27th October 2022 \n\n\nPatterns and Printmaking Inspired by Nature with Luna North. \n“Over the course of two workshops\, Luna will teach us how to get inspired by the shapes found in nature\, enabling us to use our designs to make beautiful linocut prints. For the final workshop of the retreat we will bind our own simple books to adorn with our prints. \n \nCreativity and health and well being are closely linked and by feeding your creativity you will be helping yourself to reduce stress and to keep well. We have a wonderful inclusive yoga teacher\, Kate Woodward @gingertonicyoga who will guide us on both energising and restorative yoga practices throughout the retreats. We will also have a private chef for the retreats who will nourish us with vegetarian food.” \nMore information can be found at A Nest of Gentle Makers. Also follow @anestofgentlemakers for more glimpses into these gorgeous retreats.
